"Before PAFID, I struggled every dry season. Now I grow maize on half the water. My family eats well, and I sell the surplus at market. This training changed everything."
Margaret Anyango — Lead Farmer, Kisumu CountyAbout PAFID Kenya
PAFID (Participatory Approaches for Integrated Development) is a Kenyan NGO established in 2006 to empower smallholder farmers with the knowledge and tools to fight hunger and thrive in a changing climate.
Since 2011, PAFID has delivered 8 high-impact programmes across Climate-Smart Agriculture, women's economic empowerment, youth entrepreneurship, and clean energy — transforming over 200,000 lives across 25 counties.
Financial accountability
All donor funds are managed by ICPAK-certified accountants. Operational costs are covered by institutional grants from WFP, USAID, NORAD, Global Affairs Canada, and the World Bank — meaning 100% of public donations reach field programmes. Clean audit records since 2018.
How donations fight hunger in Kenya
Kenya's smallholder farmers produce over 75% of the country's food, yet face mounting threats from unpredictable rainfall, soil degradation, and limited market access. PAFID's Climate-Smart Agriculture programmes directly address these drivers of hunger.
Farmers trained by PAFID achieve an average 40%+ increase in crop yields and a 60% improvement in gross margins. Over 1 million agroforestry trees have been planted and 50,000+ acres of degraded farmland restored.
Trusted by world-leading organisations
PAFID's partners and funders include WFP, USAID, NORAD, Global Affairs Canada, CRI, CFU/MoA, Alinea International, and Syngenta — reflecting the confidence that leading institutions place in PAFID's impact and governance.
